2016 Radio Show Student Scholars Program

To best guide and encourage students toward and prepare them for successful careers in radio, 229 college undergraduate and graduate students will be awarded registration scholarships to attend the NAB Education Foundation (NABEF)/Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Career Fair and Student Scholars Orientation on Tuesday, September 20 and the 2016 Radio Show in Nashville, September 21 – 23.  The Radio Show is produced by the Radio Advertising Bureau and the National Association of Broadcasters.  All events will take place at the Omni Nashville Hotel in downtown Nashville. Thanks to the support of 28 radio groups and associate businesses, students will attend the career fair, conference orientation and a series of special networking events, entertainment and educational content geared towards students.  In addition, students will be able to participate in the conference’s management, programming, sales, marketing, advertising, research, legal, technology and young professionals sessions.  Please scroll down to see the application requirements and timeline.

The Program

Students selected to the Radio Show Student Scholars Program will receive:

  • Complimentary Radio Show registration. The scholarship covers the cost of registration only; travel and hotel accommodations are the responsibility of the student receiving the scholarship.
  • Invitations to pre-conference activities including: NABEF/BEA Career Fair, Radio Show Scholars Orientation, mocktail networking reception and radio group executives panel.
  • Mentoring opportunities at the conference 
  • Access to networking opportunities and special events such as the Radio Show Kick-Off Party, Radio Show Luncheon, Marketplace Mixer, Advertiser Breakfast, Lunch in the Marketplace, Music & Mimosas and Closing Send-Off, along with some great entertainment and educational sessions at the conference.
  • Announcement and promotion of the Radio Show Scholars will take place before, during and after the conference, providing exposure for the scholars selected.



May 2016

Submission site opens. Application materials sent to students and faculty.

May 13 - August 31, 2016 Scholarship application window.  
Note: The submission site will close early if all scholarships have been awarded before August 31.

June 1, 2016

Rolling acceptance window begins.  BEA will start notifying accepted scholars on a rolling submission basis, with preference given to early applicants and returning scholars. Selected Student Scholars must notify BEA of their attendance within ONE WEEK of notification of acceptance.

September 2, 2016

Last day students are notified of their acceptance (pending availability).  BEA will send a preliminary schedule.

September 9, 2016

Students must notify BEA of the attendance at the Radio Show.

Sept. 21-23, 2016

Radio Show participation (with the Career Fair and other pre-conference activities taking place on Tuesday, September 20)



• Applicants must be full-time graduate student or students entering junior or senior year at a BEA member college/university in the U.S.
• Minimum GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0
• Completed Radio Show Scholar Application
• Email of endorsement from faculty member or advisor
• Resume
