2017 Radio Show Student Scholars Program

Get a head start on your career in radio! Back by popular demand, the Student Scholars Program offers college undergraduate and graduate students registration scholarships to attend the 2017 Radio Show. The Radio Show will take place at the JW Marriott Austin in downtown Austin, Texas, September 5-8. You’ll also take part in an exclusive Student Scholars Orientation on Tuesday, September 5, as well as the NAB Education Foundation (NABEF)/Broadcast Education Association Career Fair on Thursday, September 7.

Thanks to the support of 29 radio groups and associate businesses, students will attend the Career Fair, the conference orientation and a series of special networking events, entertainment and educational content geared towards students. In addition, the students will be able to participate in the conference’s management, content creation, sales, marketing, advertising, research, legal, technology and young professionals sessions.



The Program

Students selected to the Radio Show Student Scholars Program will receive:

  • Complimentary Radio Show registration. The scholarship covers the cost of registration only; travel and hotel accommodations are the responsibility of the student receiving the scholarship.
  • Invitations to pre-conference activities including the Radio Show Scholars Orientation and several exclusive events produced for the Scholars.
  • Mentoring opportunities at the conference. 
  • Access to educational sessions, networking opportunities, and special events such as the Radio Show Kick-Off Party, Radio Show Luncheon, Marketplace Mixer, Advertiser Breakfast, Lunch in the Marketplace, along with some great entertainment at the conference.
  • Announcement and promotion of the Radio Show Scholars will take place before, during and after the conference, providing exposure for the scholars selected.



May 2016

Submission site opens. Application materials sent to students and faculty.

May 10 - September 5, 2017 Scholarship application window.  
Note: The submission site will close early if all scholarships have been awarded before September 5.

June 1, 2017

Rolling acceptance window begins with priority given to students applying BEFORE JUNE 30.  BEA will start notifying accepted scholars on a rolling submission basis, with preference given to early applicants and returning scholars. Selected Student Scholars must notify BEA of their attendance within ONE WEEK of notification of acceptance.

Sept. 5-8, 2017

Radio Show participation (with the Career Fair and other pre-conference activities taking place on Tuesday, September 5)



• Applicants must be full-time graduate student or students entering junior or senior year at a BEA member college/university in the U.S.
• Minimum GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0
• Completed Radio Show Scholar Application
• Email of endorsement from faculty member or advisor
• Resume
• :30-:60 Promotional video/audio: please tell us a little about yourself and why you want to be in radio. (optional)
